BIKE UP – Two wheels across the borders

On March 1, 2019, the Interreg V-A Slovakia-Hungary Cooperation Program was launched

Small Project Basic 1st Call for Proposals provides support BIKE UP! – Two wheels across the border

start-up project (project number: FMP-E / 1801 / 1.1 / 017).

The aim of the project is to increase the attractiveness of the border area, make better use of its tourist potential, boost cycling tourism, keeping in mind the principles of sustainable tourism. To this end, we are developing a 250 km long, virtual, cross-border thematic cycling and hiking route between Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county and Košice county, focusing on the natural and cultural heritage of the border region and the key tourist attractions in the historical Zemplén, Abaújvidék and Bodrogköz areas. When planning the hiking route, we used the existing infrastructure (eg. bike paths). The two endpoints of the tour are the settlements of Debrőd (SK) and Szabolcs (HU), where the necessary tourist infrastructure is available: accommodation, dining facilities, etc.

The created hiking route and related information will be available in several places in Hungarian and Slovak language. We create a sub-page on the website of the Rural Treasure Association, which also contains hiking trails, tourist attractions, accommodation, restaurants and other service providers. We will make 500 printed copies of the publication presenting the hiking routes, which will also be available in electronic form on the website.

In Debrőd, we are creating a thematic, bicycle-friendly educational trail, which presents the sights of the village and the legends related to them.

As part of the project, we will acquire the necessary equipment for the tours: 6 bicycles, an indoor bicycle rest area (with bicycle storage and dining facilities) and a bicycle transport trailer.
